Neurosurgery
Neurosurgery is a medical specialty dealing with diseases of the nervous system, particularly the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the central and peripheral nervous systems.
Neurosurgery and neurology are related medical fields that deal with diseases of the nervous system. The treatment methods for these conditions differ. Neurologists treat them pharmacologically (conservatively), while neurosurgeons treat them surgically. Neurologists usually manage the initial stages of therapy, whereas neurosurgeons are responsible for invasive treatment of advanced nervous system disorders.
Therefore, patients most often see a neurosurgeon when pharmacological treatment is insufficient and there are indications for a precise surgical procedure.
Headaches and dizziness, numbness of limbs, back pain, fainting – these are some of the symptoms with which patients come to the neurosurgery clinic.
A neurosurgeon also treats post-traumatic patients – e.g., after traffic accidents – with peripheral nerve injuries, cranio-cerebral trauma, skull fractures, or intracranial bleeding.
