Free treatment of knee osteoarthritis

The main cause of osteoarthritis is an imbalance between the destruction and regeneration of articular cartilage. The disease primarily manifests as pain, crepitus, and stiffness of the joints, as well as limitation of their mobility.

Treatment of patients suffering from knee osteoarthritis within a clinical trial involves the free administration of an investigational new generation drug containing clodronic acid into the knee joint and patient monitoring.

The total duration of free treatment within the clinical trial is 24 weeks. During this time, the patient will have 11 free medical consultations at the WILMED Medical Center.

At the first visit, after qualifying the patient for the study and treatment, the aforementioned drug or a comparator substance will be administered. The first follow-up visit will take place 2 weeks after the injection. Subsequent specialist consultations will occur at weeks 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 16, 20, and 24 from the first visit.

Treatment within the upcoming clinical trial is intended for individuals:

  • adult females and males aged 50 to 75 years, diagnosed with knee joint inflammation;
  • suffering from knee joint inflammation for at least 6 months before the first qualifying consultation;
  • who have stopped taking nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs before the first qualifying consultation.

Persons who CANNOT be included in the treatment within the study include, among others:

  • those awaiting knee joint replacement surgery scheduled within 6 months from possible inclusion in the clinical trial;
  • who have received intra-articular anti-inflammatory drugs (corticosteroids) within 3 months before the first qualifying consultation;
  • taking glucosamine, chondroitin sulfate, diacerein, and metalloproteinase within 4 weeks before the first qualifying consultation;
  • obese individuals with a body mass index (BMI) ≥ 40 kg/m2;
  • after hyaluronic acid treatment applied within 6 months before the first qualifying consultation;

The above information will be detailed by a specialist during the visit qualifying the patient for the study and treatment.
